November 2017, and March 2018

Philippines

The issue of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and its possible effects on how antibiotic/ antimicrobial use (AMU)  will be used in swine practice has led the Philippine College of Swine Practitioners to actively join in activities to raise awareness.

Last November 24, 2017, the Antibiotic Awareness Week Summit brought together the veterinary industry.  The PCSP was represented by Dr. Eugene Mende as panelist for the discussions which highlighted misconceptions and concerns that need to be addressed.

Going forward, the PCSP actively participates in stakeholder’s meetings organized by government regulatory agencies.  There is a commitment to be involved in AMR surveillance activities as well as work together for clear steps in addressing AMU concerns.
