BANTAY ASF SA BARANGAY
Dr. Max M. Montenegro

The Philippines is unique – even in fighting ASF.  Even when all other countries have decided to phase out their backyard or small scale farmers, we have decided to keep them.  The culture of keeping a pig is ingrained in every Filipino, it is essential in our culture, our economy and to our nation’s food security.  The PCSP joins the efforts to level up the small scale sector with the flagship project of Bantay ASF sa Barangay.

We are providing you a copy of the presentation slides to introduce you to the details of the project. In Slide 4 you will see the schematic of the Outline of Farm Repopulation Procedure Post – ASF Infection.  A part had been detailed in the PCSP Tech. Advisory No. 3 .  More than the details of farm actions, the project aims to give the swine farmer the steps of the recovery process – where repopulating a previously infected swine farm is guided to success.

The main point is of course Biosecurity – our only tool for now against ASF.  The PCSP Biosecurity Standards for Swine Farms (Slide 29) was formulated to guide swine farmers from Level 0, improving key areas along the way and achieving a Level 1 (manageable for small scale farmers) and Level 2 (a must for commercial farms).

We enjoin all in this fight against ASF.  Please support the project.
